19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's initial title after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court since March of that year.

Success also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

The player's retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to question if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the last five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game chances in a close final set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, he earned the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
