Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking official commented the attack made him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
